Quick note: Sorry for the quietness around Mountain Wave Weather lately, we've been moving this week so it's been tough to post too much. Should be back a normal schedule next week, thanks for sticking around!
Mainly temperatures will be quite seasonal this weekend with Friday and Sunday featuring warm daytime temperatures in the low to mid 70's and nighttime temperatures in the mid to upper 30's. No freezing conditions are expected across the Castle Rock area this weekend.
Quick Discussion of the Weather Pattern for Fall into Winter
NOAA released its Winter Outlook for the 2017 season yesterday and it highlights a developing La Nina pattern into winter. La Nina has effects on our weather in Colorado as it shifts weather patterns to predominantly a westerly and northwesterly direction.
We'll have a more detailed article up in a week or two explaining how and why, but in a nutshell our Northern and Central mountains typically do very well with snowpack during years like that. Other areas like Southwestern and Southeastern Colorado tend to experience drier conditions. Areas East of the front range tend to be cooler and dry during the fall months and warmer and dry during the winter months.
Long story short, look for a great ski season for some of your favorite ski resorts and expect a lot of dry, windy days along the front range. We see a lot of chinook wind events across the Palmer Divide during La Nina years!
