Mountain Wave Weather
Meteorologist John Braddock

Hello, I’m John and welcome to Mountain Wave Weather! I started Mountain Wave Weather in 2014 mainly as an outlet and to share my passion for weather with folks on the internet. That has turned into a website that can see north of 20,000 visitors per day during active weather and a Facebook group with over 27,000 followers. Mountain Wave Weather continues to grow, but I want to share a bit about myself and my qualifications, because I think that’s important in today’s day and age and especially on social media.
I’m a Colorado native, born and raised. I grew up just outside of Castle Rock Colorado. My first foray into weather was when I was 7 years old in the summer of 1993. Many of you living here during that time remember it was a particularly active year with Denver getting hit by numerous severe storms and several damaging tornadoes.
After several close encounters with severe weather that year, I was hooked!
I dove head first into weather and forecasting by reading several weather books, keeping a daily notebook and a utilizing a cloud chart to try and figure out what was going on in the atmosphere. I would sit in the back yard noting temperature, cloud types and wind direction while trying to put together my own forecasts.
Fast forward to college, while my first degree is in computer science, I worked with the Atmospheric Sciences department at Colorado State University during the testing of their new CHILL radar facility in Northeastern Colorado. I spent much of my free time in spring and summer chasing severe weather in Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas and Texas. I picked up a lot of my severe weather and forecasting knowledge from chasing and observing storms on the plains.
In 2022 after years of storm chasing, forecasting for Colorado’s front range, the mountains and select areas across the Western U.S. I went back to school to officially get my Meteorology degree. I am currently working on a degree with emphasis in Broacast and Operational Meteorology at Mississippi State.
Mountain Wave Weather was created to enjoy and share the passion of Colorado, the Rocky Mountain Region and the Western United States’ weather. Today it helps educate people on weather phenomena, climate and variability.
With a strong focus on the Palmer Divide region of Colorado, Mountain Wave Weather ensures people are aware, prepared and ahead of high impact weather events.

John is a full Student/Member in good standing of the American Meteorological Society.

John is completing his Bachelors of Science in Broadcast and Operational Meteorology at Mississippi State’s Geosciences Program.
