Hard Freeze

A hard freeze is defined as a condition where air temperatures at the surface are expected to drop below 27-25 degrees for several hours. This can cause exposed outdoor pipes to freeze and burst!

When to Expect Freezing Temperatures

A strong cold front will move through the area late on Sunday night and persist through the day on Monday.

Low surface temperatures around 5AM Monday morning

Expect temperatures to be in the upper 20's to lower 30's for a Monday morning low temp. This will be a light freeze but some localized areas may see freezing conditions long enough to be concerning.

Our biggest concern is Monday night into Tuesday morning...

Arctic Blast! Temperatures for many locations will hit the mid to upper teens for several hours Monday night into Tuesday morning!

Temperatures so low for several hours will cause damage to exposed pipes and hose spigets if the hose is still connected. We are quite confident that these (or very close to these) temperatures will be experienced early next week so begin preparing this weekend!

Prepare for a Hard Freeze!

  • Drain all above-ground sprinkler pipes and valves
    • Make sure to drain! Additionally, blankets can be placed and tied over the pipes as a short term fix.
  • Disconnect hoses from spigots
  • Make sure the heat is on if you leave early next week

This is a great way to have a bad time!
